I got the effects with regards to slower loading and stuff mentioned in the workaround but unfortunately it did not fix the problem. I tried the possible fix except I'm in DX9 mode so I manipulated the DX9-settings file.Still worth a look and it did tell something more about the issue which should help finding a solution. Unfortunately it's not a very good solution for a 27" screen. I tried running the game in 1920x1080 and the issue of the grey background went away. The thread on 2560x? at 2K forums seems to be about a different issue but it was worth a try.I followed the links you posted and also tried using a lower resolution and I can report the following:
